When I returned from germany in 1980, I had never seen a RED Poodle. At a dogshow I admired a red Miniature and decided that I had to have a RED Standard Poodle.-- To my great happiness I did find a breeder in Oregon, PALMARES Kennels, that was willing to join me in the experiement. I sent her a small english apricot Standard female and we mated to an oversized red Miniature .. In Europe you may mate the different sizes if the difference is below 10 centimeters. I sent the smallest english female I had at that time.... I kept the first litter. 4 red babies. The color was stunning and I was dancing from joy. The problem came later on. The heads were Standard Poodles, the legs short like Miniature Poodles.

| While
they were cute, they were not in temperament as I knew the Standard
Poodle. They all were smaller than a Standard and they were called
a "Caniche", the in between size of Mini and Standard Poodle.
It took several years of mating and keeping red poodle puppies to come
up to the standard of the BIG poodle. Today they all fit the bill.
There are several Champions now and the size is up to 26 inches.
It was a real tough job with lots of frustrations and disappointments-
BUT- I had my red Standard Poodle, as you can see on my pictures. |
